Dr. Sands recently achieved his Ph.D. in Management with an emphasis in Leadership and Organizational Change from Walden University. Dr. Sands' 146-page dissertation focused on "When Does Six Sigma Reduce Defects and Increase Efficiencies?" His work fills a gap in knowledge about "Six Sigma being a management fad" "buzz word."
Before obtaining his Ph.D., Dr. Sands earned a Masters in Lean Six Sigma from Villanova University, an MBA from Pepperdine University focusing on Strategic Planning and Implementation and his BSM also from Pepperdine University with a concentration in Accounting & Finance.
Richard was born and raised in Southern California. Richard now resides in Orange County, CA with his two daughters. Richard is currently engaged to get married to his beautiful financé Laura whom he met in 2013.
Richard enjoys outdoor activities and is an avid snowboarder. Richard spends most of his time trying to keep up with his daughter's activities, providing emotional support to his very needy dog Bruno, and traveling with Laura.
Richard began working for United Health Group in 2010 and is currently serving as a Sr. Consultant for UnitedHealth Group along with providing his Academic Consulting services. Richard has also taught at the university level for Business and Healthcare since 2007..
Richard has worked for a number of “Fortune” companies in managerial positions. Previously for Kaiser Permanente as a Manager of Strategic Planning & Implementation where he had oversite of 120 employees (2005-2010). Richard founded and led SANDS Insurance & Financial Services in 2003 until joining Kaiser in 2005. Richard entered the healthcare industry right after obtaining his MBA in 2001 with PacifiCare Health Systems and served as a Senior Product Manager until leaving in 2003. Richard worked as an engineer for 18 years leading up to the time he entered into the healthcare industry in 2001.
Richard began teaching at the university level in 2007 through 2014 for the University of Phoenix where he taught courses in healthcare and management for both the undergraduate and graduate programs online and in a traditional classroom. Richard also taught business and healthcare courses for Capella University from 2009 to 2015.
